The table!

Now, I don't post often. But when I do post, I would like it to include awesomeness. Luckily, when browsing the web, I noticed a particular piece of awesome - the expandable table. Now, this is no ordinary "put a leaf in it" table. Oh no. It's expandable.

See for yourself.

I wants it.

A shout out...

... to all my peeps who provide me with Chickory coffee fun time. Many days of the stuff, and it's still an enjoyable morning experience. Though I must admit I brew it in my coffee pot now, rather than the fun little cups - the fun little cups left coffee stains on my counter, much as all the /other/ coffee stains on my counter.

I swear, we're going to need to replace our wonderful 30+ year old counter top, and it's going to be entirely due to my coffee habit.

Package sent by Ninjas

So - the Ninjas. They have made another move. Today, I received a package, claimed to be sent by PaperKingdoms. Thing is, it couldn't have come from her. It contained much: a knife, which is an exact replica of that which I asked her to send to me, as I couldn't take it home from a recent wedding. A loaf of Pumpkin-bread, one of my favorite foods. Additionally, an entire block of fudge, meant certainly to distract me from the other contents of the package.

No, this couldn't have come from Ms. Kingdoms - no real human being would have sent so much to some guy who has memory problems, and cannot accurately recall 3 entire months. No, it must be ninjas, sent to poison me with pumpkin bread. In order to test this theory, and for this reason alone, I have consumed nearly half of the loaf within 5 minutes of receipt of this package. Certainly, I will soon feel the sting of their dark poisons, and be certain of the origination of this package. When this moment occurs, I assure you, my revenge on these impostors will be swift, and furious.

Additionally, I will thank PaperKingdoms for a lovely package, as certainly they must have stolen hers in transit, and she has done me a great favor.

Just saying, is all.

A family tree

So I got a family tree in my email today, from my aunt, who spent money on this kind of thing.

My paternal line now extends back to 1630, with Johann Peter Linck, born in Gross Rohrheim, Starkenburg, Hessen, Germany. I think that's how to read it, at least. I know the person after him was most definitely born in "Hessen, Germany". Does this make me a Hessian? Are the two even related?

Germany-knowing-historical-type-peoples... activate! (Looks pointedly at smarriveurr)

WoW Sadness

So, for those of you out there who play World of Warcraft, this post will make sense. To everyone else, this is unabashed whining about a game. Consider yourself aptly warned.

I've played WoW, on and off, for many moons now, and tend to enjoy it. I like repetitive things, and seeing friends online. Hence, while I first started on a "PvE" (Players versus Enemies) server, I enjoyed it, and had fun, but eventually left to another server, to play with friends.

Eric and Jill, both rather high up on a "PvP" (Player versus Player) server, were those friends, and I longed to raid with them. Thing is, I don't have time for raiding, and really just like random casual play. And I really hate getting attacked by other players. It happens all the time. It ruins my fun, ruins random time with gabedun, and more annoyingly, frustrates the hell out of femmetofarad.

Hence, I'm suggesting something. Unless magdelane and gabedun are horribly unwilling, I'm suggesting we up and move to a nice lowpop PvE server. Your thoughts?

We're not that far along with these characters, and honestly, I can grind to 25 in about a weekend, so we're not losing much (unlike Eric and Jill, who have 100's of hours in, and can't easily leave).

Just saying.

A House not named "Hank"

So the Femme and I are now the proud owners of a mortgage that owns a home. It's remarkably clean inside, which is a good thing, and we've managed to tear up a corner of the carpet, and the floors beneath look to be in fairly good condition, so as of now, resurfacing doesn't seem necessary.

We're still trying to figure out where to put what tasks, as in "Which room will the TV watching occur in?" and "Which room should the cat's box go in?" It's not as easy as it could be, as while we've got rooms, they're not all that huge, meaning location of things matters. Putting the guest bed in the one bedroom, for example, would pretty much block off all access to the closets and cabinets. Not so useful. Hence, we get fun time trying to figure out where to put stuff.

Otherwise, we spent the evening over there with the in-laws, eating pizza and just checking things out. We've discovered the purpose of most of the switches, and have a number of keys that go to things, so it's all working out well.

Overall far less of a 'big event' than one would imagine. Almost non cathartic, in a way. But very good, nonetheless.

A Post!

A Bulleted List That Includes Both Topics Normally Found In An LJ Post And Also Too Many Capital Letters

I had a fabulous time at J&E's New Year's Eve party. Now a wonderful and glorious tradition, I had a really good time seeing some friends I haven't seen in a while.

femmetofarad and I are hopefully closing on our house tomorrow, around 4PM. Should only take a few hours, and after that, we'll be like all good Americans - debt laden!

Femme's Birthday is coming up in February (the 17th), and we'll be having a party in said new house for her. If you're reading this, you're most likely invited. That's how this 'friends' thing works, I believe.

Said new house has (officially) 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. At the same time, with like 1700 livable square feet or some such, we've got a lot of space for people. The current furniture plan doesn't involve us buying that much new furniture, but will result in at least

One full-size guest bed

The Futon

Available floor space in

The fireplace room

The basement room

Other, as yet unnamed, rooms

Many of these unnamed rooms can be made cat-proof with only the simple action of "door closing", implying that inflatable beds are a worthy option. Look at all of the high-profile housing we offer!

Don't like our bedding? Tell us what you want - we'll buy it! It's only a few bucks for new sheets/blankets/etc, and we're totally trying to bribe friends. It's true.

Speaking of friend-need, we'll also be having a summer party of some sort. We're not sure when, but if you comment now, you'll get to have input. I encourage said input, as it means we'll know when to throw our summer party. There will be grilling, and such.

How is my bulleted-list format posting?

Dr. McSexyPants: Solar

Your local meme-yoinking McSexyPants ... after the cut!

You are The Sun

Happiness, Content, Joy.

The meanings for the Sun are fairly simple and consistent.

Young, healthy, new, fresh. The brain is working, things that were muddled come clear, everything falls into place, and everything seems to go your way.

The Sun is ruled by the Sun, of course. This is the light that comes after the long dark night, Apollo to the Moon's Diana. A positive card, it promises you your day in the sun. Glory, gain, triumph, pleasure, truth, success. As the moon symbolized inspiration from the unconscious, from dreams, this card symbolizes discoveries made fully consciousness and wide awake. You have an understanding and enjoyment of science and math, beautifully constructed music, carefully reasoned philosophy. It is a card of intellect, clarity of mind, and feelings of youthful energy.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

An update, just because

So it's officially my college's fall break, which means, in some sense, that I've got today and tomorrow off. This, of course, is misleading, as I'm still heading in to do grading, test prep, et cetera. Still, not a bad thing at all.

Smarriveurr came over this weekend, and I personally had a great time - I hope he did too. Turns out that driving to our place from his work is only about 30 mins farther than driving home from work. Thus, if in the future, we schedule visits 'smartly', he can just leave work and come here, crash here for a bit, then head back to work from our place. Total additional travel time is then only 1 hour, which in my opinion, is amazing. Sure, it's still a 1:45 drive for him, but that's only because his commute normally bites donkey chunks. So yeah. Good times.

Femmetofarad is at work now, as she gets no fall break, which is sad, as she woke up today not feeling well at all. If it were legal, I would've gone to work instead of her, but somehow I doubt her school district would've thought her husband coming in to teach is not a valid substitute.

Looking backwards, then, I mention that JC homecoming occurred none too long ago, and was quite nice. Fewer people than before, and that's sad, so I give especially mad props to Magdelane, Gabedun, and ... um... Javamonkey? (She's on blogspot though, I think). With all the weddings next year around that time frame, I've a feeling that the horde will be in absence from next homecoming, and hopefully many of us will have another excuse to see each other. Perhaps in St. Louis?

As for the future, the traditional Judeo-Christian habit of holiday theivery means that the winter festival is fast approaching, and with it, comes that white stuff falling from the sky. And with white stuff comes WTX. Femmetofarad and I are officially volunteered to host it this year, but have yet to firm up the date - we've got to coordinate with her family, who has only a single day of event, and we can't miss said day. Once we get that cleared up, we'll send out the official notice to y'all.

Went to the National Apple Festival this past Sunday. Lots of apples, let me tell you. It was a totally kitsch-y craft-y event, with some really good smoked beef sandwiches, and the best caramel apple that the human body can survive. The event was huge. They had three full farmer's fields for parking, and were running a series of 10 full-time school busses for shuttling people to and from the parking areas. Thousands upon thousands of people easily. And a lot of apples. But no Honeycrisp apples, as they're out of season now, much to Femme's dissappointment.

Anyway, just wanted to post some ramblings, to keep people in the loop!

The Black Queen

So I'm also a Black Queen. Much like Smarriveurr. I'm also a professor, however, which is a wonderful job. Highly busi-fying, as man, it's surprising how much time teaching can take when you've never done it before. So yeah. Job = wonderful.

Also, the cat seems to be doing ok at the Animal medical place, so that's good. She's got to go someday, but hopefully not today.

The Black Queen

You scored 3 Power-Finesse, 4 Leader-Follower, 2 Unique-Ordinary, and 2 Offense-Defense!

You are devoted to the cause, and you protect the interests of the Black team. You will often be working behind the scenes, protecting even the lowliest pawn. However, you are impossible to ignore, since at any moment you could strike like the black widow. It is more in your nature to allow your opponent to make a foolish mistake that you exploit, than it is for you to try and force an aggressive victory for your team.

Stupid computer bitterness

So yeah. Hate to not talk about semi-important things like my new job (still awesome!), new bed (still sleeping on it!), etc, but instead, I plan to devote this post to my annoyance at Apple. Yes, Apple. My recently-favorite computer company.

See, Odin (my dual 1.5 GHz Athlon system) is getting a bit long in the tooth. Sure, he still works and all, but with Whitney's iMac so much faster (and prettier) and running a good operating system, I am eagerly awaiting the purchase of a new system. Our wedding wasn't as pricey as we'd imagined, so I even had ~2k budgeted for it. It was to be grand. I was to buy the "1999$" system configuration, at educational pricing (bringing it down to 1700), then add in a ton of upgrades, bringing it back up to 2k. This was all to happen today, when the newest batch of Mac systems was to be announced, you see.

This, at least, was the plan. Instead, the Steve announced new Mac Pro's. (Exactly as expected.) There was no 1999$ option, however - the base (and only!) model is a 2500$, four-processor monster, capable of holding 16GB of RAM in 8 slots, while holding 2TB of storage, and 4 (yes FOUR) video cards. With RAM at a reasonable level, the price is really 3000$. Plus Tax.

Now, in some sense, this is cool. Apple has a Godzilla computer. They also have a fluffy-bunny system (the iMac). But where, Greg asks, is the nice middle-of-the-road, only two-processors system, that costs roughly 2000$? There isn't one.

And as such, I have to wait until Sept 15th (my first paycheck), then re-evaluate my finances to see if I really need a computer that costs that much money.

So sad.

First Night

Well, I've just slept in a bed for the first time in over 2 years. A very odd feeling. I'm not in pain, that I can tell, which is very good, but also very wierd. Imagine walking up to a pot of boiling water, and sticking your hand in. You know it should hurt. You know that it did hurt - many times. Yet it does not. I'm still a little 'gunshy', in that I didn't try anything yet - no sleeping on my side, no fun positions, nothing. And I'm still not 100% sure I didn't hurt myself ever so slightly, and that it'll build up over time (continuing the boiling water analogy, even after you pull your hand out of the pot, it's still wet. Is that bad? It doesn't feel normal, but not bad either).

So yeah. There's high hopes, and a particularly high hope that said 'weird' feeling is just my back going into place. Doubtful, as it's been like 4 years of fucked up, but hey - a man can hope.

So with that, I send out a thank you to the people who helped make it happen. No matter what happens from here, I've gotten at least one night in a bed with my wife.

*cries*

Stuff

So yeah. I'm bad at posting, but I'll do my best.

Work went well today (as always). I really like the people I'm working with so far, and while there's some minor 'problems' around, no one seems to be a soul-sucked shell of a person, and that gives me hope for the future. There seems to be a lot of opportunity for me to 'make a mark', which is quite nice as well. I'm given a lot of freedom in how the CE major evolves, as I'm pretty much the numero uno guy in the CE dept. for all eternity. EE, of course, will have others, with much more clout, but I'm pretty much 'the guy' for CE. Which is good.

In other news, the house still needs unpacking, but that's ok. We finally got to start using some of our wedding gifts, including the Circulon 2 pot-set, and let me tell you - moving from Revereware on electric stove to Circulon on gas - now that's a good time.

Anyway, back to life!
